CONVENTION SCHEDULE

  Thursday, June 23rd  
    People will begin arriving.The early ones will get to visit and also be a part of setting up details for the Saturday forming demonstration.
    Help built frame for Hyperbolid Paraboloid thin-shell roof! On Thursday, under the leadership of George Nez (or Gary "Gobug" Olsen if George has to go to Afganistan), we will build the frame for the hypar roof that George Nez has pioneered for third world countries. (See Workshops & Displays for more details.)
    Help set up 26' and 10' air forms! On Thursday, we will need help setting up a 26' and a 10' Turner air form. that will be inflated during the Convention.
    Help build a Conics structure! Chuck Henderson, the inventor of Conics (http://fishrock.com/conics/) will be setting up a demonstration Conics structure.

Charmaine Taylor (http://www.dirtcheapbuilder.com) will give a presentation on lime plasters and alternative paper-lime-clay mixes on walls.

  Workshop: Lime & Alternative Wall Stuccos. Charmaine will apply the information presented before lunch and demonstrate the different mix properties, giving participants and opportunity to work with each of the mixes.

  Paul Sarnstrom: Martin Iorns Technique
Paul, the Director of the Ferrocement Educational Network and the creator and manager of the Ferrocement Mailing List, will present a discussion and demonstration of Martin Iorns laminate ferrocement techniques. Though Mr. Iorns is no longer with us, he pioneered important techniques in ferrocement construction ( http://home.att.net/~miorns/ ). There will be an opportunity for hands-on experience for those interested.

  Dinner BBQ. Lynnette and Nolan will be sponsoring a family-style barbeque with hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, soft drinks, and basics. Others are invited bring anything else they would like to add to the line up. Volunteers to man a BBQ are needed!

Mini-presentations by Convention participants.   This will be an opportunity for Convention participants to make an informal 10-15 minute presentation to the group on a project they are working on or recently completed.  It will include time for an open discussion and sharing of ideas and techniques.  This is also a good opportunity to tap the brains and creativity of the group if you've got a ferrocement-related problem, or need help or ideas for a project you're working on.  To be included in the schedule, please e-mail nolan@mortarsprayer.com, including the topic of your discussion. 

After discussion winds down, an assortment of videos on ferrocement and alternative building technologies will be available for viewing.

  T.P. Singh on Ferrocement Temple Dome and State of Ferrocement Construction in India. T.P. Singh recently completed a 22' ferrocement temple dome and will discuss the process, challenges, and what was learned. He will also discuss how ferrocement is being used in housing and commercial structures.   Peter Epperson on Building Ferrocement Water Tanks. Peter Epperson, of Pacific Gunite on the Big Island, Hawaii, will talk about building 20,000 gallon ferrocement water tanks and swimming pools. He will also talk about his experience with ferrocement house building.

Herb Nordmeyer on Fly Ash and other Additives. Herb Nordmeyer, of ISG resources, is a world-renowned expert and public speaker on stuccos and mortars, and will provide valuable information and insights into working with stuccos and mortars.   Richard McCabe Discussion and Workshop. Richard will discuss use of PVA fibers in ECC, and demonstrate its use by mixing and spraying a PVA/ECC mix on styrofoam insulation.

  Richard Austin Workshop. Richard will do a presentation and demonstration of his ultra-low-cost construction methods.
Including ow-cost inflation devices, lightweight insulating cores, and
low-cost heat sealing tools for constructing inflatable forms.

  Mark Heath on Green Sandwich Technologies. Green Sandwich technologies product is a welded wire sandwich panel with integrated foam insulation (www.greensandwichtech.com). Mark will show a DVD of buildings and walls being erected with the panels and then a more technical presentation of engineering theory on "Composite Thin Shell Structures.

  Workshop: Bob Merrill on Hybridized Construction. Bob Merrill will demonstrate making papercrete and working with papercrete, and discuss how he uses papercrete in combination with rammed earth, strawbale, and other alternative building techniques, in his Hybridized Construction system. There will be an opportunity for hands-on experience for those interested.

        Tour will include several local sculpted concrete homes, including the Scheid castle in Eugene, and Giorgio & Kelli's home.

Sunday will be a tour of several local sculpted concrete homes. This will include the Scheid castle in Eugene, Marshal Pallet's home, and Giorio & Kelli's multi-dome house. More details on the homes to be toured will be provided as available.
